Malinalli "Mixa" Xipil Leyva (they/them) is a Ph.D. Candidate at the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP), specializing in Borderlands History, Latin American History, and Food Studies. They are also the Digital Curator/Archivist for the Association of Applied Border History’s Proyecto Bracero, digitizing and preserving thousands of primary source Bracero Program documents entrusted to the Border Farmworkers Center in El Paso, TX.
Leyva possesses an M.A. from the UTEP Department of History as well as an interdisciplinary M.S. with a concentration in Geospatial Information Science from the UTEP College of Science. Their graduate research on the Bracero Program and its connection to the Mexican Agricultural Program was published in the Agricultural History journal in 2021. Their dissertation continues to look at themes and connections between these two projects.
